Difficult People - Week Two - The Overly Needy Person
NOTES:
But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man’s feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened. He jumped up, stood on his feet, and began to walk! Then, walking, leaping, and praising God, he went into the Temple with them. Acts 3:6–8 (NLT)
HOW DO WE HELP THE OVERLY NEEDY?
WE’RE GOING TO BE STRATEGIC IN OUR HELPING.
Two ways to offer help: REACTIONARY and STRATEGIC.
WE’RE GOING TO USE DISCERNMENT.
But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. Luke 5:16 (NIV)
You can't say YES often if you don't say NO occasionally.
WE’RE GOING TO TRUST JESUS COMPLETELY.
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Galatians 6:7–8 (NIV)
RESCUING is not always helping.
BOTTOM LINE:
People in need aren’t PROBLEMS to solve but PEOPLE to love.
THE CHALLENGE:
Pray: God, help ME remember that I’m in NEED and You are always the ANSWER.
