Difficult People - The Hypocrite
NOTES:
What is a hypocrite?
In Greek theater… it’s an actor (one who wears a mask).
A hypocrite is someone who portrays something inwardly but is not actually that way outwardly.
What are we dealing with?
Maybe somebody is acting like a hypocrite because…
-
- They just don’t know better.
- They just don’t know better… YET!
- They do know better, but still disobey God.
How do we deal with a hypocrite?
- Recognize the hypocrisy.
- Restore the hypocrite.
- Remove the hypocrisy in your own life.
How can you think of saying to your friend, “Let me help you get rid of that speck in your own eye,” when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.
BOTTOM LINE:
Where we’re most critical is where we’re most vulnerable.
THE CHALLENGE:
Pray: God help ME recognize and remove MY own hypocrisy.
